Anatomy & Physiology Students Society

The Anatomy and Physiology Students Society (APSS), (est. 2021), is a student-led initiative of the Department of Anatomy and Physiology, within the School of Biomedical Sciences. This society is a combination of the now defunct Students of Neuroscience and Anatomy (SONA) and Physiology Students Society (PSS), which represented their respective departments before the merge in 2021.

Across the year, APSS coordinates a range of academic, professional development and social events to enrich the graduate student experience. Academic activities include Honours/Masters practice talks, which supports our honours and masters students before their final oral presentation. Social events include:

  • End of Month Events, such as Drinks, Trivia Nights, BBQs, and Sports Days
  • End of Year Retreat, open to all graduate research students, where we go away for the weekend to a resort in Regional Victoria
  • Under the Coverslip (running for over 20 years) our annual microscopy art competition, attracted by thousands of students nationally each year. This is followed by a cocktail-esque Art Gallery where we display everyone’s submissions, open to the general public

And so much more!!

Joining APSS is a great opportunity to form new friendships and learn about research across different areas of the department.

The aims of the club are:

  1. To enhance the academic and professional life of Anatomy & Physiology Graduate students.
  2. To encourage social and professional interaction between students in the department of Anatomy & Physiology, as well as with other departments within the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health
  3. To provide support to all research students in the Department of Anatomy & Physiology and enhance the student experience through the organisation of social events
  4. To allow students within the department to have a credible platform through which students can voice any concerns/ opinions with senior staff members
