International Youth and Students for Social Equality

The IYSSE is the student and youth movement of the Socialist Equality Party, Australian section of the International Committee of the Fourth International, the world Trotskyist party. We insist that the urgent problems confronting humanity—war, poverty and attacks on democratic rights—can be resolved only by abolishing the capitalist system and reorganising society in the interests of the vast majority, not a tiny parasitic minority. The IYSSE fights to build an international anti-war movement of the working class against the growing danger of a Third World War, on the basis of an anti-capitalist, socialist and internationalist perspective.

Club Aims

  1. As the student and youth movement of the Socialist Equality Party, the Australian section of the world Trotskyist movement, the International Committee of the Fourth International (ICFI), the IYSSE aims to educate students in the program and principles of the ICFI.
  2. The IYSSE seeks to develop an international anti-war movement among students and young people, that will fight to mobilise the working class in Australia and throughout the Asia-Pacific region in a unified struggle against the US-led pivot to Asia and the preparations for war against China.
  3. The IYSSE will provide students with an understanding of the lessons of the strategic historical experiences of the working class throughout the 20th Century, most importantly, the political and theoretical struggles against those tendencies that broke from the Fourth International and then the ICFI on the basis of a rejection of its program and principles. Today, these groups, which the ICFI characterises as pseudo-left, are anti-Marxist and pro-imperialist, giving their support to US and European regime-change operations in Libya in 2011, Ukraine in 2014, and Syria today. The pseudo-left are hostile to the political independence of the working class from the Stalinist, Social Democratic and Green parties and from the trade unions.
  4. To promote the intellectual traditions of classical Marxism associated with the names of Marx, Engels, Lenin, Luxembourg and Trotsky, against the theories of the Frankfurt School, postmodernism and identity politics.
  5. To sponsor regular forums discussing the daily political analysis of the World Socialist Web Site, the Internet site of the ICFI, dealing with Marxist philosophy, global politics, economics, history, science and the arts.
