One For The World

One For The World is student-led for-purpose organisation that has chapters in top institutions around the world including Harvard, Pennsylvania, McGill and most recently, The University of Melbourne. Our mission is simple: to mobilise the student body and eradicate extreme poverty within our lifetimes. On our website (1fortheworld.org) we have a list of 16 charities that have been selected based on Effective Altruism principles and partnerships with leading research organisations (GiveWell.org). Since our founding in 2014, we have raised over $1 million in student pledges and improved the lives of thousands of people around the world. Come join us!

Club Aims

  1. To encourage students to pledge 1% of their future income to One For The World endorsed charities – those which are evaluated based on evidence, efficiency and execution – in alignment with goal #1 of the United Nations’ sustainable development goals.
  2. To contribute to the Melbourne Vision, helping the university create a knowledgeable and diverse ecosystem of interfaculty students seeking to engage in wider discussions about extreme poverty.
  3. To connect students through a global university community, including sister One For The World chapters at top universities around the world, linking up to our established network of philanthropists, charities and mentors.
  4. To establish an alumni network that connects current students to social sector and volunteer opportunities.
