Under Bunjil is a student-led magazine comprised solely of work by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. The publication serves as a tool for the empowerment of Indigenous voices here at The University of Melbourne. Under Bunjil is a space to share our thoughts, experience, art, poetry, fiction and non-fiction.
Volume 9
Submissions are now OPEN and will close on Sunday the 11th of April (the end of the mid-semester break). You can submit to Under Bunjil if:
- You identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.
- You are a current student at the University of Melbourne.
Please send submissions to underbunjil@gmail.com and note you can send through as many pieces as you’d like. Some things you can submit include:
- Photographs.
- Sketches.
- Artwork.
- Journal articles.
- Opinion pieces.
- Essays.
- Creative writing.
- Poems.
- Songs / sheet music.
- Recipes.
- Versus (i.e. Rihanna vs Beyonce)
Written work should be no more than 1,500 words (excluding a bibliography), and poems should be no more than two pages.
Join the Team!
This year we need new students to join the editorial team! We are looking for:
Head Content Editor
- Skills in editing written works including poetry, opinion pieces and essays.
- Follow up with contributors about edits to their work/s.
- Contribute to overall vision and design of the magazine.
Head Visual Editor
- Proficiency in InDesign (or other publishing software).
- Interest in visual art and design.
- Organise the layout, design and colour palette of the magazine.
Submissions and Engagement Editor
- Responsible for collecting submissions from students.
- Assist the head content editor.
- Contribute to overall vision and design of the magazine.
