The Network of Women Students Australia Conference (NOWSA) is held each year around the country and brings women from across Australia together to discuss women’s rights and activism at a university level.
This year, the 31st NOWSA is going to be held in Newcastle, during the week of the July 16. It’s going to be a week jam-packedd of workshops and activism that will touch on a variety of important issues – such as fighting against sexual assault and harassment at universities, legalising accessible and safe abortion nationwide, and addressing the gender gap in our pay and studies.
The UMSU Women’s department understands that the costs of registration, accommodation, and airfare means that this conference is inaccessible to most students. As such, we are funding financial subsidies to women students to attend the conference. These grants will be determined based on financial need and will prioritise first-time attendees.
The choosing of these grants will be decided anonymously in a meeting of Women’s Committee following its close date and will be distributed in the following weeks through reimbursement.
Applications for UMSU NOWSA grants close at COB on June 4.
The grant process and participation in NOWSA is governed by the following policy, please read this if you wish to understand the terms and conditions of travel.
If you would like to attend NOWSA without financial subsidy, registration will be made available through our facebook page and website when it is released.
As for people going to conference with a subsidy, we will inform you of your grant success and help facilitate the process of registration.
