2 Comments on EVSC30003 Environmental Risk Assessment
One of the core subjects for environmental science although there were students studying engineering and marine biology as well. There are 5 non compulsory computer based pracs (these go for three hours where you learn how to use the content you've learnt in the lectures) There are no tutorials which probably would have been nice but the take home exam was very fair and similar to previous years. The subject was very well organised with different lecturers and guest speakers.
I guess this was useful but a lot of the content felt irrelevant. Basically just takes you through a bunch of different risk assessment methods used in conservation, eng, health science, etc ... It is really well organised but most of the lectures are super dry and I would probably recommend watching at home on double speed (although Terri Walsh, the American epidemiology lady & the biosecurity bloke were all pretty engaging). You are marked on some stuff you do in the computer pracs, plus there is a take-home exam which is nice and straightforward (and its worth attending the help session they run during SWOTVAC). It's not too hard to do well in this subject, but honestly only take this if you are either an environmental science major for whom it's compulsory, or an engineering student looking for a WAM boost.
