As the final act of this semester draws to a climax, we’re partnering up with the Dancesport Club to watch an acclaimed musical rom-com from the Golden Age of Hollywood: An American in Paris (1951), in vibrant Technicolor and with music by the Gershwin brothers!

Jerry (Gene Kelly, who also choreographed the film) is the eponymous American in Paris and a struggling painter. Patronised by an heiress who has fallen in love with him, matters complicate when Jerry in turn falls in love with Lise (Leslie Caron), a French girl who works in a parfumerie and already has a boyfriend. 👀 Shenanigans, much dancing and singing included, ensue.

Gorgeously directed by Vincente Minnelli and the winner of six Academy Awards including Best Motion Picture, this dreamy film was also paid heavy homage to in 2016's La La Land. Get a sneak peak at some of the lavish set pieces in the trailer here.
