こんにちは film friends!

For our semester 2 week 2 screening, we’re journeying into the world of fantastical Japanese animation and folklore with a lesser seen Studio Ghibli film, Isao Takahata’s: Pom Poko (1994)! 🦝

In it, a community of magical shape-shifting raccoon dogs (tanuki!) struggle to prevent their forest home from being destroyed by urban development. Fun fact: ‘Pom Poko’ is the sound of tanuki drumming their bellies in a poem from 1919 by Ujō Noguchi.

To watch them with us and subtitles, just transport yourself to https://cytu.be/r/Film_Society at 7:30 pm Friday! You can text chat while watching or enjoy the story full screen, while we’ll jump onto Zoom afterwards.
