You Are Not Your Productivity Online Workshop

This workshop will be run by UMSU Disabilities Officer Srishti Chatterjee and explores “Redefining Productivity Under Capitalism.”

It focuses on the capitalistic tendency to hold a being’s value central to the purpose they serve in production processes. This leads to the exploitation of natural resources, almost mindlessly, as if the planet is a slave to capitalism. Not only that, but also, as humans, we are very likely to consider ourselves worth only our productivity.

Especially during these times of crisis, it is important to understand and value people and the planet beyond its resourcefulness defined under existing classist, racist and gendered power structures. This workshop will focus on redefining these structures and focus on how to value things deeply, deeper than the immediate purposes we serve in production chains.

We acknowledge that this workshop was planned and will be facilitated on the stolen land of the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation. We’d also like to acknowledge the owners of the lands from which participants call in from. Australia does not exist. This always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
