Understanding Sexual Crime with Dr. Patrick Tidmarsh – Rad Sex and Consent Week

  • This workshop will cover a range of topics related to sexual crime and the justice system, including:
  • The psychology of sexual offenders
  • The dynamics of sexual abusive relationships
  • The intersections of family violence, sexual assault and child sexual abuse
  • Reporting and false reporting
  • How police investigations are conducted
  • How courts and juries make decisions in sexual offence matters

Patrick has worked in the field of sexual crime for over thirty years, in a variety of roles. He has worked with adult sex offenders in both custodial and community settings, and began Australia’s first programme for adolescents committing sexual offences, the Male Adolescent Programme for Positive sexuality (MAPPS). For the last twelve years he has worked for Victoria Police, creating new methodologies for investigating sexual crime, and training specialist sexual crime investigators. He has worked on many other projects, including the first “Respect and responsibility” training for AFL clubs and the inaugural Therapeutic Treatment Board for youth displaying sexualized behaviours.

He has just joined the Student Union at UoM, in the new role of Sexual Harm Response Coordinator.

This event is non-autonomous, meaning all students are welcome and invited.
