Posing a Thread

Friday, 9 May, 2014

This edition we saw a mix between seasons, with students switching between summer, autumn and winter outfits as Melbourne’s weather continued its unpredictability. Students embraced the art of layering and mixing texture. Earthy tones of browns and beige seem to be the preferred palette among Melbourne University students, no matter the weather. Students also know how to accessorise, whether it be a good leather satchel, felt wide brim hat, 1990s style choker or even bright coloured hair. Accessories add a touch of personality to an otherwise simple outfit.

What is your favourite piece of clothing you are wearing right now?Probably my biker jacket from Zara, it’s a classic.

How would you describe your style?
A mix between edgy and minimalism, as well as a mix between classic and modern. Oh, and black.

What is your favourite trend at the moment?
I love wearing jackets around my shoulders now. It’s pretty impractical but it almost looks like a cape, a clothing trend that I’m also loving. I’m on the hunt for a perfect cape.

If you had to wear one outfit for the rest of your life what would it be?
Something black, obviously.

In your opinion what is one piece of clothing that everyone should own?
I would say a black leather/leather-look jacket. They’re timeless, whichever style they’re in.

If you could have anyone’s wardrobe, whose would it be?
I envy anyone who is wearing Givenchy.

Who is your favourite designer or label?
I think Riccardo Tisci is a genius; he would have to be my favourite designer. Alexander Wang and Saint Laurent are amazing too. I’m also obsessed with Zara and Saxony.

What is your favourite piece of clothing you are wearing right now?
My checked dress from General Pants.

How would you describe your style?
Anything on sale, kidding! I wear whatever I think looks nice and makes me feel good about myself. I think that’s the most important thing about fashion.

What is your favourite trend at the moment?
I’ve been really digging the sports luxe look at the moment however I’m still yet to experiment with it myself.

If you had to wear one outfit for the rest of your life what would it be?
I’d wear a plaid dress and an ass-kicking pair of chunky black boots.

In your opinion what is one piece of clothing that everyone should own?
A nice striped tee! Cropped, long sleeve or short sleeved, boat neck, low collar or high collar. There are a limitless number of options when it comes to stripes.

Who is your favourite designer or label?
Alexander Wang but let’s be honest, which uni student can afford that. I never fail to find something that catches my eye at General Pants or Topshop. There’s also this vintage store on Brunswick Street called Sheila Vintage that I’ve recently been loving.
