Hannah Buchan, UMSU President

17 March 2020

Video Transcript:

Due to public service and University announcements about coronavirus, UMSU has had to make some hard decisions in regards to our events. Student safety is our primary concern so we regretfully will be cancelling or postponing all UMSU events until the 20 April.

While we understand that social distancing is necessary, we realise that UMSU events play big role in uplifting students on campus. Over this period UMSU will be focusing on supporting and advocating for students. Many students have voiced their concerns to us about the University’s social distancing measures. UMSU is currently seeking urgent action from the University on issues such a mandatory class attendance and classes that can’t be taught online. If you believe you are experiencing hardship as result of these measures please reach out to us so that we can support you.

We understand that this is a really difficult time to navigate through and you may be facing difficulty accessing basic supplies. During this time please look after yourself and each other. If you are able to, reach out to others or share your resources. We will get through this together.
