Pot Luck Open Mic Night
Got a song to sing? A poem to read? A dance to attempt? A joke to tell? A scribble to draw? Do it at PLOM, the Pot Luck Open Mic Night run by the Creative Arts Department at UMSU. Come and meet new people or hang out with old friends, drink cheap bevs and tuck in to some free pizza.
Each night will be broken down into three parts:
- You Do You – rock up, put your name on the list, and do the you that you feel like doing, whether that be singing a song, telling a story, reading a poem, doing a dance, or telling a joke (or something completely different).
- PLOM Jam – Calling all musicians! Bring your instrument and then take it in turns to get up and jam with whoever else is game. It’ll be a little bit scary and very very fun, full of beautiful mistakes and accidental genius.
- Showing off your PLOM – This is a showing of a new work, selected through an application process. It could be anything from a new script, a solo movement piece, cabaret or performance art. It is a space for trying new things, listening to new stories, and getting new perspectives.
If YOU would like to show off your PLOM, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include a brief description of the work (no more than 250 words), a copy of the script if you are using one, and a bit of info about yourself or the group you are applying with (and if you have a script but no one to read it, we can probably help with that too!). We are looking for new work at any stage of development, no longer than 30 minutes long.
PLOM will be held in the Student Lounge on level 1 of Union House on Thursdays at 6pm on the following dates:
- 3rd of August
- We’re missing one because MUDFEST WILL BE ON 21st – 26th August
- 14th of September
- 12th of October
So if you have something to show or simply want a good time, come along and share the love.
