Call on our university to divest from the fossil fuel industry
Did you know that Melbourne University is investing in fossil fuels? By continuing to support this reckless industry, the University is profiting at the expense of its students and their futures.
It’s time for Melbourne University to show its true commitment to sustainability, and join the global movement towards a prosperous low-carbon economy.
The campaign is always welcoming new volunteers into a number of different roles. It’s a fantastic opportunity to meet inspired people, and join an exciting, global movement.

Join us on South Lawn from 12pm on Wednesday April 22nd, as we deliver a massive petition signed by students, staff and members of the community and a second petition from alumni calling on the University of Melbourne to divest from fossil fuels.
This is the biggest moment of our campaign yet- we need you there to show that students, staff, alumni and the broader community all want the University of Melbourne to stop investing in fossil fuels.
We’ll be making a giant orange X on South Lawn then marching over to the Administration Building to deliver the petitions. There will be food, chanting, speeches and lots of opportunities to visually show your support for the campaign.
There are currently plans underway for the University of Melbourne to divest from fossil fuels as part of a broader Charter on Sustainability and Climate, likely to be adopted by the university in the next few weeks. However, it has not yet been approved and there has yet to be any official commitment. This makes now the perfect time to demonstrate to the University of Melbourne that the community wants full divestment from fossil fuels!
