The Union Movement

Defined in so many different ways across history and the internet, the trade union movement can really be summed up by saying, it’s a an organised attempt by workers to improve their status through collective action. The wins of the movement include, the weekend, the 8 hour day, and toilet breaks. It’s a movement that in attempting to better workers’ lives at work, has actually formed a foundation for which our society relies on. It’s always striving, adapting to technology and world events, and always in the interest of the worker.

Charli and Cam (the EdPub officers) are huge supporters of the union movement, and lucky for you, your studentĀ unionĀ is a strong voice in that movement.

Attached at the bottom of this page are some trade unions that’re associated with the University of Melbourne, and if you have any questions or curiousities surrounding anything union related, don’t hesitate to drop us a line on: education@union.unimelb.edu.au
