National Union of Students
The National Union of Students (NUS) is the peak representative body for undergraduate students in Australia. NUS works with affiliated student unions and associations across the country in order to pursue their common goals of advocating for the rights of students, in the settings of both the education quality received by university students, and in their personal lives. Members of UMSU are de facto members of NUS, as affiliation fees are paid to NUS by UMSU every year.
National Days of Action
The NUS coordinates National Days of Action (NDAs). These are protest events which occur simultaneously Australia-wide. These protests will often occur in the context of proposed budget cuts or particularly worrying restructures either from the government or the university itself. It is the job of the Education Public officers to help organise contingents of Melbourne University students who attend these protests. If you’re interested in participating, feel free to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or otherwise chuck our Facebook page a message at facebook.com/umsueducation
