This Friday (March 15), university students and staff will be standing in solidarity with school students walking out of class for the School Strike 4 Climate. This historic action will see students and staff demand an end to new coal and gas projects, an end to the Adani Coal Mine, and 100% renewables by 2030.

The University of Melbourne NTEU branch and UMSU stand in support of this action and encourage all students and staff to attend. We also congratulate the University of Sydney for advising staff and students that they will not be penalised for attending this protest.

We call on our University administration to issue a similar statement and ensure students and staff at the University of Melbourne are not penalised for attending, in line with their public commitment to support action on climate change.

Students and staff at the University of Melbourne have planned a march to depart from the Sidney Myer Asia Centre at 10.30am this Friday. Click here to join us on the Facebook event.

Education Conference is held annually by the National Union of Students. It is a chance for students from across the country to skill share with other student unions, learn about education activism, and guide the national campaigns for the rest of the year.

This year the conference will be held in Perth at the University of Western Australia from the 8th of July until the 11th. As it will be difficult for students to travel this far, UMSU will cover the cost of registration for all students who fill out the expression of interest form and register for the conference. Grants will also be made available at a later date.

If you are thinking about going to Education Conference, please fill out this form to register interest.
You must fill out the form by the 21st of May to receive a grant from UMSU.
