Cam Knight is a Sydney-based comedian who has brought his show 100 Percenter to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2014. Cam has hosted and worked on shows for Channel 7, the Comedy Channel and Foxtel, and has acted in more serious television and stage roles.

When he picks up the phone, the first thing he tells me is that he’s been up since five doing Triple J Breakfast, and warns me that he might be a little delirious.

Can you sum up 100 Percenter in just a few words?

I guess it’s the closest thing to being the best show I’ve ever written, and it’s basically about living up to my full potential and being happy with what I have. I know, that doesn’t sound funny at all; that sounds bullshit; that sounds like a shit book. It’s the best thing I’ve written so far, the one I’m most happy with.

Who’s the most exciting person you’ve worked with on or off stage? There has to be one you brag about to your friends.

I brag about the fact that I opened for Michael Winslow; he was the guy from Police Academy who did all the weird sound effects. I remember when I was twelve, and I used to… do the machine gun, like [starts making machine gun noises]. One that also excited me, and also freaked me out was when I had to interview Will Ferrell and John C Reilly when they came out to do the publicity for Talladega Nights. You could just see me, man, like, I was so happy that I had makeup on my face, because I got the weirdest stress rash just slowly growing on my neck, cause I was just nervous, and they started impro-ing and riffing. I don’t even think we talked about the film, and we were just doing all sorts of bullshit. And then at the end, John C Reilly bounds up to me and goes ‘Yeah, yeah, nice talkin’ with ya, Michael’, and I’m like he doesn’t even remember my name, that’s great…

You were based in Melbourne for a while and you’re coming back for the Festival, is there anything you’re looking forward to doing?

At the moment I’m sort of doing a bit of writing with another comedian friend of mine, Luke Heggie, so we’re hoping to get that done and dusted as well. Just catching up with a lot of friends, I don’t get down there a lot so it’s nice to just chill out with my mates. I like finding where all your new bars have popped up, you guys just constantly keep building bars. I love it.
