“Really difficult. Enjoyable but much more of a theoretical subject than I was expecting. It’s not traditional history.
If you enjoy historical film then it is interesting but much harder than one might anticipate.”

“This was a fantastic subject that really got me thinking about just what is history and how we present it. The films were good overall, although some weeks they just weren’t overly engaging (Celia and J Edgar were not crowd favourites). My tutor Luke was fantastic at getting you to think deeply about the films and to engage critically. This subject is a must for anyone wanting a well rounded History major.”

“Considering that I’m not Australian, the way the subject was taught meant that I didn’t feel left behind without a basic knowledge of Australian History. The system where each student has to present to their tutorial group definitely worked really well.

All in all, I really enjoyed this subject and it was really well taught.”

“Really enjoyable subject. Took a more historical angle than I was expecting but that worked in my favour. The content in the latter weeks was very relevant to issues in the world now and we regularly discussed the conflict in Syria that is ongoing along with other things that are prominent in international relations.

The only issue I had was the fact we had to buy the subject coordinator’s book. Not only did that seem a bit dodgy but the book didn’t contain any content different from the lectures. “

“Really good subject, lecturer is fantastic and interesting and doesn’t read off their notes. Subject reader provided, without excessive readings prescribed each week. “
