Bendigo St Occupation
Melbourne has a problem with the disenfranchised and the homeless. It is an uncomfortable reality that thousands of people have unstable living arrangements.
There are scores of reasons why this might be the case. People fall on hard times but it does not strip them of their rights to housing or amenities.
UMSU condemns any action to forcibly displace people without providing alternative arrangements. It is categorically unsafe and unacceptable.
The occupants of Parkville and Bendigo Street need our support and have been seeking assistance for years. It is high time that the authorities, in particular the Victorian Housing Minister Martin Foley addresses the current housing crisis and provide support to those that need it most.
UMSU supports the Homeless Persons Union and the Bendigo St Occupation.
