Hello! LEC is back in 2021 and bigger than ever!
To kick the year off, we’re running a WELCOME NIGHT next Friday! We realise that a lot of new members may not know much about the club yet, so we’re going to start things off by running a quick little information session about our club and what we do. It’ll just be a short little presentation outlining what events we run, and how you can get involved!
After our information session, we’re going to launch into a Kahoot language trivia (with prizes for the winners)! And finally to cap the night off, we’ll split off into breakout rooms where you can meet some fellow language hosts and committee members and hopefully play some games :))

Our Annual General Meeting will be held next week (week 2) on Friday the 12th of March at 5pm on Zoom (link below)! Executive and General committee positions will be up for grabs.
If you’d like to run for any of the positions, join the meeting and nominate yourself with a brief speech, and you could be voted in. For those who are unable to attend but would like to run for a position, please reply to this email with your desired position, a short self-introduction and reason for running. It will be read out at the meeting.

Any member of the club can run for an open committee position. Being on the committee will reward you with the most unforgettable university experience. So we highly encourage all members who are interested to attend the AGM and nominate themselves for any positions they might want.
Even if you are not interested in a committee position, we encourage you to participate in determining the future of our club by selecting the next committee and helping us make the quorum!

Join us each Friday during the semester to listen and engage with our guest speaker about all aspects of the Catholic faith. There’s usually dinner before or after.

The Great UMLL CAKE Off
WHAT IS IT?
The Great UMLL CAKE Off is a baking competition where you submit your own baking creations under the theme: UMLL!
HOW DO I PARTICIPATE?
Submit at least one photo and a fun description of your UMLL bake through at least one of:
– posting on Instagram, tagging @unimelbloveletterssociety and @mucakeclub with the hashtag #GreatUMLLCAKEOff
– posting on Facebook, tagging UniMelb Love Letters Society and Melbourne University CAKE Club with the hashtag #GreatUMLLCAKEOff
– messaging us on Facebook or Instagram (accounts listed above)

HOW LONG DO I HAVE?
Entries open 11th of February at 12pm and close 4th of March at 11:59pm
Judging will be on the 5th of March, time tbc.
CAN I ENTER MORE THAN ONCE?
You can enter The Great UMLL CAKE Off as many times as you like, as long as it’s submitted correctly and within the time frame! Yes, that means you have unlimited entries, so get baking!!!

POPPIN with UMLL
Our first IN-PERSON event for the year!
Start the Semester 1 right by to getting some FREE salted, delicious popcorn when you pick up your membership cards and our cute top-fan pins!. Don’t be afraid to POP by to hang out with fellow UMLL lovers whilst listening to some groovy tunes with us! This is the perfect chance to catch up on all the socialising we missed out on in 2021, with a chance to meet our committee and ask about what UMLL Society has to offer!
When: Wednesday 10th of March from 12pm to 2pm
Where: University Square (right near campus!)
Additionally We will be ensuring our event is COVIDsafe, meaning that we will follow restrictions and guidelines to ensure everyone is safe whilst having fun in the sun! This also means social distancing, bringing a mask and us providing hand sanitiser to stay germ free
All attendees will be required to download the COVID-Safe app, carry a mask with them at all times and provide full contact details to be kept for up to 28 days following the conclusion of the event. If you feel unwell, have a fever, cough or other COVID related symptoms, please stay home and get tested if necessary. If you have been instructed to self-isolate and the event falls within this isolation period, you must opt out of this event and stay home.
