One of my favourite first year subjects! It's a really good sociological analysis of the law and the concept of harm in relation to the law. The lecturer is engaging and the material presented is both relevant to society today, interesting and in depth. Assessment is also fair and helpful especially going into uni and learning how to write at that academic level. Would definately recommend the subject.

Not my favourite subject, I found the content a bit fluffy and difficult to find an empirical basis for. However a lot of people really loved this subject, and it certainly provides an interesting point of view. Much more of a social theory subject than a legal one.

Amazing first year subject. To be clear, this subject is about the role of law in society. There is a fair bit of learning theory and applying it to case studies. However if you don't like learning theory and applying it to case studies your Arts degree is going to be a slog. The theory is cool and the case studies will challenge you to think about things critically. This subject really changed the way I thought about the world and the way things work in it. If you want to move from thinking about things like a high school student to think about things like a uni (Arts) student this is the subject for you.

Heavy on the old white guys and especially heavy on Foucault! interesting subject and good discussions in tutes but not a lot of real-world applicability. very much a philosophy of law subject rather than a modern evidence-based subject.
