The Fantasy and Science Fiction Appreciation Society cordially invites you to join us in Ankh-Morpork for a magical event to kick off the year!
We’ll be watching Terry Pratchett’s Going Postal, a faithful film adaptation of the original novel. It’s a story of lies, letters, love and intrigue, in which expert charlatan Moist Von Lipwig is compelled by the devious Lord Vetinari to undertake the most difficult and soul-crushing punishment ever assigned to a man: to reopen the Ankh-Morpork Post Office. This may however upset the Clacks Towers, who run a monopoly on long-distance communication, leaving the city’s residents with the choice between no service or bad service. And the new competition doesn’t sit too well with the dastardly Reacher Gilt…
During the intermission (for indeed the movie has an intermission) we’ll be running an open discussion on magic in popular culture! Discworld, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Wheel of Time, Dungeons & Dragons and the Inheritance Saga – the world is rife with detailed and astounding systems of how to make magic work (read: not break everything.) So whether you’re a fan of a system; want to point out its flaws; devised your own world of magic; or just want to come sit in and hear about some new material; come join us for an interestion discussion!
Oh, and did I mention there’ll be free snacks?
See you there,
– The Bard
P.S. We also have regular meetings on a weekly basis throughout the year – time and location to be determined in the near future.
