Students’ Climate Strike: How We Can Win 100% Renewables

Students around the world are walking off class for the second time, in mass climate strikes on Friday March 15. University staff and students must join them. The school strikes present a golden opportunity to restart the mass movement for 100% publicly owned renewables, a just transition, and no new fossil fuels.

Coal-fired electricity still powers the Australian economy, and international competition makes governments reluctant to act. To force action will require a powerful mass movement involving unionised workers. Climate demands must be linked to social justice and improving workers’ lives.

Like the popular calls for a Green New Deal in the US, we need a movement that demands governments directly build the renewable energy, public transport, and infrastructure that can provide hundreds of thousands of climate jobs. Join us for a discussion on how we can build just such a movement!
