Destination Melbourne (DM) is a three day / two night residential pre-orientation program primarily geared towards students of disadvantaged backgrounds who have just been accepted into the University of Melbourne. This includes, but is not limited to: students from rural/interstate areas, students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, etc.
The program includes talks and panels on the services available from the University and the Student Union, as well as a variety of activities around campus and the city of Melbourne. This helps familiarise students with the social, academic and extracurricular features of university life. Activities being run during the program include:
- Amazing Race around the Melbourne CBD
- Scavenger Hunt
- Gelato Crawl
- Trivia Night
- Various Academic workshops
- Themed Dinner
- Mystery Event
But aside from the activities to keep you busy, the best aspect of Destination Melbourne is the abundance of amazing people you will meet and become friends with. One of the most daunting things about entering tertiary institutions (or the first time as a student), is commonly the anxiety behind whether or not students will make friends. This program aims to help facilitate those friendships and provide students with a network of support, including:
- New students, like yourself!
- A team of amazing hosts (current Unimelb students ranging from 2nd year to even their Postgrads)!
- Opportunities to get involved in other clubs, volunteer programs, etc.
