Exam Support Stall
Everyone needs a bit of help come exam time, and the Exam Support Stall is designed to provide just that.
Since 2006, volunteers, student representatives and UMSU staff have provided information, advice, referral and support to students at a marquee at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton during the exam period (2-3 weeks in June and November). The stall is coordinated by the Advocacy Service, and staffed by UMSU office bearers and other student volunteers.
Volunteers are trained to answer any questions exam goers may have and to offer advice and guidance to help students get through exam day. The stall also provides exam essentials such as:
- pens, pencils, and tissues for those who had a brain fade and left the important stuff at home
- free bottled water and Chupa Chups
- advice on where to get help if needed

What do I have to do?
As a volunteer, you will answer a range of questions, such as the location of facilities, and where to get help with special consideration and academic misconduct issues. You may need to refer students to Student Union and University services such as the Advocacy Service or the Health Service. You will sell or distribute exam supplies and work with other volunteers to set up and pack down the marquee and other equipment.
Over the three weeks exam period in June and November, we ask that you volunteer for at least two shifts at times that suit you. Shifts are for three hours. Times are as follows:
- 7:45am – 10:45am
- 10:15am – 1:15pm
- 12:00pm – 3:00pm
- 2:00pm – 5:00pm
You will be well supported. Usually you will work in pairs, and a resource folder is available at the marquee for you to consult.
You must be available to attend training. Training will be held:
- Semester 1: early June
- Semester 2: late October
