SummerFest Host Program 2020
Join a tour!
Congratulations and welcome to the University of Melbourne! Our names are Ezra, Tim, and Hannah and we are the Directors of the University of Melbourne Student Union (UMSU)’s Host Program.
We’d like to extend you a special invitation to join a tour run by our program during SummerFest. Our hosts – experienced students from across UniMelb’s faculties – will help you make some new friends and give you a guided tour of the campus.
At Parkville, most of the Host tours will be taking place at SummerFest on Wednesday 26th February.
Arts, Biomedicine, Commerce, Design, and Science students will be automatically assigned to a host group containing new students from your faculty. You will likely receive a text message and/or email from your Host in the days before the program providing instructions on what time and where to meet at SummerFest, so watch out from this in your inbox (and junk mail)! Make sure you reply so that your host knows you will be coming!
If you don’t hear from your host, are a postgraduate student, or get lost or arrive late to SummerFest, never fear! We’ll also have tours departing from the Volunteering Hub (V-Hive) on the ground floor of Union House (opposite Union House Theatre) throughout the day which you are welcome to join without signing up in advance. The tours will depart at the following times:
If you can’t make it on the day at all, we’ll also have tours departing from the V-Hive at 10.00am, 12.00pm, and 2.00pm on Monday 2nd March and Tuesday 3rd March, during Week 1 of semester. You are welcome to join any of these tours – no sign up required!
We are also excited to announce that we will be running three SPECIAL TOURS at SummerFest, all departing from the V-Hive and running for approximately 30-60 minutes. Everyone is welcome to join a tour without signing up!
- 1.30pm: Cuisine and refreshments (food and drink) tour
Already feeling like a coffee or want to know where to go when you hear your stomach rumbling during your two-hour food science lecture? Join this tour to find out the best locations to get food and drinks (of the non-alcoholic kind) on campus.
- 2.00pm: Le musée et galeries (museum and galleries) tour
Want to learn a thing or two about high culture on campus? A lot of students don’t know that UniMelb has multiple museums and galleries around campus that you can access – you will not be one of them if you join this tour!
- 2.30pm: Half work and half play makes me a fun student! (study and relaxation spots) tour
Want to know where you can study… or where you can sleep? You’ll find out both on this informative tour, prepared by hosts expert in these activities – everything from the best library study spots to the best outdoor snooze locations!
Please feel free to email us at email@example.com if you have any questions. Otherwise, we look forward to welcoming you to the University of Melbourne in the coming weeks!
At Southbank, Host tours will be taking place on Thursday 27th February. Tours will depart at 1.30pm, 2.00pm, 2.30pm, and 3.00pm from SummerFest. All new students are welcome with no sign ups required!
Southbank students who need or wish to use the facilities at Parkville are also invited to join a tour of this campus on Wednesday 26th February!
Don’t forget to check out the other events the Host Program will be running during SummerFest!
