Posing a Thread
Words by Laura Lamech
The trend on the streets (or the campus) was contrast over summer break. You’ll see a vibrant clashing of colours like fluoro orange and red with monochromatic outfits. Call it confidence or cleverness, these students sure know how to make a statement. Then there’s the effortless contrast of textures with leather and cotton.
Let’s hear what these students have to say when asked about their individual style.
How would you describe your style? Sort of whatever’s on my floor I guess gets worn.
What things inspire you? I guess I like black and white, they’re probably my two favourite colours, and tan, tan accessories and black and white, so anything in that probably catches my eye.
Most coveted item currently in your wardrobe? Probably my bathing suit actually, it’s new, it’s got watermelons on it. I’m liking that a little bit.
What have you been wearing over the break? Lots of just white cotton sack dresses.
Do you think you’ll wear similar things at uni? Yeah, probably like boyfriend jeans and a t-shirt, unless it’s 40 degrees again!
Looks you love or hate? I’m a bit perplexed by that jelly shoe with the heel, I don’t know what’s going on there, I like the flat ones, but the heel’s a bit weird, I think that’s my quandary of the moment.
If you could predict the trends to come? I think crop tops seem to be making it back in, I don’t know what I think about them, but I’ve seen them with high waisted jeans. I think we’re going back like old school to what our mums used to wear.
Where do you like to shop? I generally do it online actually, often from foreign labels.
How would you describe your style? Slightly preppy.
What do you look at for inspiration? I guess just what other people are wearing on the street.
Favourite item in your wardrobe at the moment? Probably some tight pants that I got online, they’re tan coloured.
Any trends you love or hate? Never liked jeans worn down below.
