LEVEL 3 UNION HOUSE
The Arts Lab is an open-access art studio for creative activity located on the third floor of Union House. The Arts Lab is equipped with large movable work tables, artists’ easels and art materials. It’s an ideal space for individuals and groups to get together to embark on a creative project, whether it be painting banners, theatre set design, rehearsal, craft or drawing.

The ARTS LAB can be booked for the purpose of Arts-related activities ONLY during semester. University of Melbourne student groups and individuals are given first priority.
The ARTS LAB is a multipurpose art studio on the third floor of Union House, approximately 8 x 9 metres in size.
The studio provides:
- Artist’s easels.
- 4 large movable work tables.
- A wet area.
- Some basic art materials.
The Arts Lab may be booked for a maximum of 4 hours per day. An extension can be made on the day if no other group is booked to use the Arts Lab. Individuals may book the Arts Lab for up to 12 hours per week. The Arts Lab has 6 individual spaces that may be allocated at any one time.
If you’d like to make a booking during a time that is already booked, contact us and we may be able to manage multiple bookings.
Terms of hire
The Arts Lab can be booked for the purpose of arts related activities only by current students and staff of the University of Melbourne. The Arts Lab Terms and Conditions must be agreed to before booking sessions in the Lab.
The Arts Lab will be open for you to use for the time you have booked it. If, however, it is closed, please contact Buildings Services Staff, located in the Buildings Services Office on the Ground Floor (office located behind the Information Desk) to open the Arts Lab.
