Are you someone who is seeking to expand your wardrobe? Are you a fashion veteran looking for buddies to hit the op shops with? Or maybe you are just interested in thrifting? The University of Melbourne Thrift Society seeks to connect like-minded individuals who share an appreciation for clothes, pre-loved goods, and sustainable fashion through arranging thrifting outings and events. Furthermore, we hope to collaborate with local businesses in efforts to bring attention to, and hopefully minimise, the wasteful side effects of the current fashion industry. Anyone is welcome to explore the world of sustainable fashion with Melbourne Thrift Society!

The aims of the club are:

  1. To gather like-minded individuals who share an interest in fashion and thrifting and to provide a friendly and inclusive community for all.
  2. To socialise with one another through holding activities such as ‘thrifting’ in Melbourne, in an aim to increase knowledge of local shops.
  3. To expand our individuality and to explore the range of fashion and style throughout society.
  4. To further understand the recycle and second-hand shops (op shops) in Melbourne and to adopt a practice of recusing garments for better sustainability.
  5. To educate on and explore the cultural and lasting significance of specific articles of clothing in the modern day.
  6. To develop one’s own sense of self-expression and self-confidence through the medium of clothing.
