It’s that time of year again, Film Society! UMSU election week, when the stupol (student politics) hacks are out in force. Which also means it’s time for our annual online screening of journalist Gary Newman’s doco The State of the Union! About our very uni, and a great example of how stupol can work, and go horribly wrong. 🗳️🤼🍻

When: 7pm, Wednesday 4th Sep
Clocking in at 63 minutes, it’s not a long watch, but is a wild one, documenting with humour the infamous 2003 ‘Melbourne University Student Union’ (MUSU) election. Allegations of corruption, an all-out war between the campus’ left and right-wing factions, beer - the future of the union was at stake. Politics aside, this one’s also just a cool trip to the Parkville campus of 20 years ago!
To watch it with us, text chat while doing so, and hang on Zoom after, just head to the link above on the night.
