Ahoy Film Society and Pirates Club! This week we're excited to be crewing up to screen a swashbuckling and criminally underrated British family adventure: A High Wind in Jamaica!
When: 6:30pm, Friday March 21
Where: Kathleen Fitzpatrick Theatre, Room B101, Arts West - West Wing (Building 148b)
Free: PIZZA and DRINKS before the film! 🍕🥤
Based on the once famous book of the same name, vaguely topical given the recent cyclone, and directed by Alexander Mackendrick, the film follows the Thorntons, a British family living in Jamaica in 1870. When they decide to send their children back to England for a proper education, the long journey home quickly turns into pandemonium when a pirate ship, led by Capt. Chavez, attacks their vessel. As the pirates begin to loot and pillage, the children mistake the pirate ship for their own. Now trapped on an unfriendly vessel, they must figure out a way to reunite with their parents.
As per usual, there will be pizza and drinks before the film so you don't come down with scurvy, plus drinks after at the pub too to avoid mutiny. 🍻 As per unusual though, we will be a few levels downstairs from Film Society last week in the Kathleen Fitzpatrick Theatre from 6:30pm.
