Just Pass the Papadums, Katherine

Just Pass The Papadums, Katherine

Presented by Four Letter Word Theatre

In light of COVID-19 restrictions, Four Letter Word (FLW) has decided to go virtual as the show must go on! We’re bringing to you a ‘hot read’ of this new Australian play, ‘Just Pass the Papadums, Katherine’ written by Chenturan Aran and directed by Ella Kamer.

‘Just Pass the Papadums, Katherine’ is a bold and comic exploration of family, assimilation, grief and the struggle to master your racial identity. The play explores the murky politics of international adoption and one adoptee’s attempt to discover his buried past.

‘Just Pass the Papadums, Katherine’ has been in development for the past nine months. In semester one Chen was given the opportunity by FLW to devise the script with mentorship from actress and comedian, Stephanie Teitelbaum. Chen was then accepted into Union House Theatre’s virtual writer in residence program, where he worked alongside Palestinian playwright, author and poet, Samah Sabawai to further develop this script. ‘Just Pass the Papadums, Katherine’ remains a work in progress and will continue to be developed by Chen following FLW’s play reading.

This event is taking place online but many of us live and work on the lands of the Boon Wurrung and Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin Nations. Sovereignty was never ceded. FLW Theatre would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land and pay our respects to their elders, past, present and emerging.
