Staff Strike
Some staff at the University of Melbourne went on strike on Wednesday 9 May to protest the University regarding its stance on workplace agreements. Instead of going to work, the National Tertiary Education Union joined other unionists and workers for the ‘Change the Rules’ rally in the Melbourne CBD, which turned out up to 100,000 people.

Advocacy Groups Respond to Al Jazeera Documentary Australia: Rape on Campus
University sexual assault advocates have called for government action against sexual violence on international students after the launch of Al Jazeera’s documentary Australia: Rape on Campus last week.
Goodbye
After 50 years in the Rowden White Library, the famous ‘do not study’ table is going back to the University. We made a video to say goodbye.
VCA Vacancy
Nicholas Lam has ceased their term as the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) campus coordinator, after missing three meetings of students’ council in a row. There is now a casual vacancy for the position, and all VCA students are welcome to apply.
UMSU AGM
The University of Melbourne Student Union held it’s annual general meeting (AGM) on 1 May. The AGM, which served to approve office bearer mid-year reports, went for only three minutes.
The Hunting Ground
The UMSU women’s department held a screening of US university sexual assault documentary The Hunting Ground on 2 May, followed by a panel discussion with Nina Funnell, Kate Crossin, Molly Willmott, Kareena Dhaliwal and Rose-Monet Wilson Scott. The panelists spoke about the failure of universities to adequately address sexual assault.
Locked Out Of A Lock-Up
Student media was locked out of the federal budget media lock-up, which took place on 8 May. Farrago spoke to the shadow government and the mainstream media about the government’s decision.
