Defence Equipment Society (DES)

This is a club that is currently seeking affiliation. If the club's affiliation is not finalised, any memberships purchased through the UMSU website will be refunded.

Defence Equipment Society (DES) brings together students interested in the technology and design behind modern defence and security systems. The club provides a platform to explore how equipment is developed, used, and adapted across different real-world environments. Through interactive discussions, member presentations, and collaborative sessions, DES encourages critical thinking about engineering solutions, functionality, and global applications. Whether you are passionate about technology, design, or simply curious about how complex systems work, DES offers a welcoming community to learn, share, and engage.

Club Aims:

  • To create a friendly and inclusive student community for people who are interested in military and police gear culture, uniforms, and equipment styles from different countries.
  • To encourage weekly sharing and discussion activities, where members can present one gear setup, uniform style, or cultural theme, and learn from each other in a respectful way.
  • To explore the cultural, historical, and media meaning of military and police outfits, including how they are shown in films, games, documentaries, and public online content.
  • To promote responsible and non-violent discussion, with no discrimination or hate speech, and to make the club a safe space for learning, social connection, and cultural exchange.
