Fanworks and Media Analysis Society (FAMAS)

This is a club that is currently seeking affiliation. If the club's affiliation is not finalised, any memberships purchased through the UMSU website will be refunded.

Fanworks and Media Analysis Society (FAMAS) is a student club for people interested in fanworks and critical engagement with media. We aim to create a welcoming space for students to share and create non-commercial transformative works, including fanfiction, fanart, edits, and doujinshi, while also discussing film, television, anime, games, literature, and online media. Through workshops, presentations, discussions, and social events, we encourage both creative participation and thoughtful analysis. FAMAS is for students who want to explore how media is interpreted, reworked, and shared, while connecting with others who enjoy fandom, creativity, and media culture.

Club Aims:

  • To provide an inclusive, friendly and encouraging environment where students can safely share, discuss and enjoy fanworks and other non-commercial transformative works based on existing media.
  • To encourage close interpretation and critical analysis of media, including narrative, character, trope, adaptation, and form across a wide range of media.
  • To support members in developing transformative works such as fanfiction, fanart, edits, zines, and doujin-style projects through workshops, feedback circles, and collaborative creative activities.
  • To organise regular workshops, presentations, and discussion events centred on transformative creation and media analysis.
  • To foster friendships and a sense of community among students with shared media interests through both structured events and casual social activities.
