Welcome to the Central Asian Society, a student-led space for connection, community, and cultural exchange at the University of Melbourne! The club brings together students from Central Asia, the broader region, and anyone interested in learning more about it. It aims to create a sense of belonging and support for students who want to find familiar cultures, languages, and shared experiences away from home. Through social gatherings, cultural celebrations, food nights, music, discussion, and collaborative events, the society hopes to make Central Asia more visible on campus while building friendships, understanding, and a stronger inter-community network for students and allies.

Club aims:

  • To establish a recognised and visible Central Asian presence within the University of Melbourne by representing the cultural identity and heritage of the region.
  • To create a welcoming and inclusive social space for students of Central Asian background to connect, build friendships, and foster a sense of belonging.
  • To organise cultural and social events, including Navruz celebrations, traditional food nights, music and dance gatherings, and other community activities.
  • To increase awareness and understanding of Central Asian countries (Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan) through cultural exchange and engagement with the broader university community.
  • To provide a unified platform that strengthens connections among Central Asian students across different national backgrounds.
