Our mission is to create an inclusive community at the University of Melbourne where students of all backgrounds can explore and celebrate the diverse cultures, histories, and societies of North America.

The North American Culture & Connections Society welcomes students from Canada, the United States, and Mexico, as well as Australian and international students with an interest in the region. We aim to promote a deeper understanding of North America while fostering cultural exchange and meaningful connections on campus. The society also seeks to build relationships with students and institutions across North America through collaborations, joint events, and virtual exchanges, creating opportunities for dialogue, cultural appreciation, and cross-university engagement.

Club aims:

  • To build a welcoming community for students interested in the cultures of the Americas, with a particular emphasis on North America, where they can connect through social events, discussions and shared experiences.
  • To celebrate the diversity of the Americas – including regional traditions, Indigenous cultures, languages, food, music, history and contemporary cultural life – through themed events and activities on campus.
  • To foster cultural exchange between students with backgrounds or experience in the Americas and the wider University community, encouraging understanding of similarities and differences between social life in the region and in Australia.
  • To host broad, interdisciplinary knowledge‑sharing events featuring professionals, academics and community leaders with experience in the Americas, showcasing the variety of cultural, academic and professional experiences related to the region in order to inform and inspire students, without providing recruitment services, commercial advisory work or individual careers coaching.
