Chemical Engineering Students Society

The official student club for Chemical Engineering students. We run a variety of social, academic, and industry focused events throughout the year.

The Melbourne University Chemical Engineering Students Society (MUCESS) is the official faculty-based, student-run body for undergraduate and postgraduate chemical engineering students at the University of Melbourne. Students of the Chemical with Business, Sustainability & Environment and Materials & Minerals streams of Engineering are also represented. MUCESS is affiliated with the University of Melbourne Student Union (UMSU) and Faculty of Engineering and IT (FEIT).

MUCESS was established in 1960 to foster a sense of belonging and connection amongst chemical engineering students. The club has maintained this sense of community through various social events, including an annual cocktail night, mid-semester camp, regular lunchtime catch-ups, study sessions and trivia nights. MUCESS also meets students’ academic and career needs by electing student representatives and hosting an annual large-scale industry event in collaboration with our sponsors and chemical engineering student representatives at other universities.

Club Aims:

  1. To actively promote, develop, and foster a strong relationship between chemical engineering students at the University of Melbourne and leading figures/companies within the Australian engineering industry.
  2. To hold activities, both academic and social, of such a nature as to interest and benefit the members.
  3. To represent the members in matters affecting their academic interests.
  4. To promote the welfare of members.
  5. To be a forum for the expression of members’ opinions on matters affecting their welfare.
