We aim to create an environment to support Muslim students in their academic, religious and social development and promote understandings of Islam and Muslims.

The University of Melbourne Islamic Society (UMIS) is a student run club representing all Muslims on campus.

Club Aims:

  1. To maintain an Islamic identity for Muslim students and staff and to create and uphold an Islamic environment.
  2. To create awareness of Islam on campus.

And last but not least, help create a lasting bond of brotherhood and sisterhood amongst Muslims

UMIS aims to educate and promote awareness about Islam at various levels of knowledge. We have a large collection of books, leaflets and tapes in our library, as well as free literature for distribution. The UMIS letter and email list provide avenues for the members to keep up to date with relevant issues and upcoming events. Depending on demand, we hold talks and study circles, which are a good way to learn and to get to know each other.

Depending on involvement and enthusiasm, we organise various activities throughout the year:

  • Educational: Islamic classes and talks, as well as sessions relating to studies, careers, and employability.
  • Social: Activities such as social nights, sports competitions, trips, lunches, barbecues, and trivia competitions.

Keep an eye out on the notice boards for upcoming events and activities. Also don’t forget to join the mailing list.
