Brought to you by the SSAF

Barkly Theatre are thrilled to announce auditions are now open for their debut production of Picnic at Hanging Rock, playing in the Guild Theatre April 25-27, 2024.

SYNOPSIS

Victoria. 1900. On a Saint Valentine’s Day picnic to Hanging Rock, four schoolgirls and their governess vanish mysteriously. Joan Lindsay’s novel explores the aftermath of their disappearance, and the impact on their rural community – lost in the twisted mystery of the Australian Gothic. The global success of Tom Wright’s 2016 stage adaptation advances a contemporary relevancy of this unyielding myth.

ROLES AVAILABLE

The cast consists of an ensemble of 5 female or non-binary actors telling the story of Picnic at Hanging Rock. Due to the nature of the script, there are no set characters. Instead, actors should be confident with transitioning between multiple characters  within a scene (ranging from ages 14-50), adopting accents (incl. Colonial Australian, English, and French), and comfortable singing.

We greatly encourage and welcome submissions from actors who are First Nations, PoC, CaLD, queer, gender diverse, and/or neurodiverse.

While Barkly Theatre is affiliated with The University of Melbourne, external applicants are more than welcome.
