1 hour, a search for thoughts that can’t be put together

Milly Borrack
(George Paton Gallery)

Milly Borrack is an artist based in Naarm/Melbourne. Her practice explores temporary rule-based structures such as games, rituals, and exercises. Milly is fascinated by the ways these structures can simultaneously produce freedom and constraint, depending on the choices we make to momentarily accept or disregard them. READ MORE.

a broadcast from nowhere that goes somewhere (i dream again of loving my destiny)

James Hazel
(George Paton Gallery)

The body holds the working-class score. A broadcast from nowhere that goes somewhere. Keeping up appearances amidst bourgeois coldness™. A para-archive of classed artefacts and Neighbours from Hell. Extended transcriptions from “the other side” of the road. Care-in-precarity. Calls on weight & call on hold. Non-property as non-self. Horizons that never arrive. Social security & life under the negative sign. A nervous garden held together by bread ties. Dad smells like White Ox after work. Lingering, loitering, & making do. Dream, dream, dream. MEMORY IS MATERIAL

Leon Bowers, Kitty Chrystal, Anna Devine, Virginia Guest, Gala Jane
(Level 3 Project Space)

MEMORY IS MATERIAL brings together five artists working across diverse media, exploring the multi-layered nature of memory. Their work explores how memory is encoded; its function in our daily lives; its intrinsic relationship to experience, trauma and identity; and how it lives within our individual bodies and collective consciousness.
