For our next guest lecture night we have Prof. Licia Romano talk about 'Rediscovering Sumer: Life and Landscape at Abu Tbeirah'. Located near the ancient city of Ur in southern Iraq, Abu Tbeirah offers a unique window onto life in a Sumerian city of the third millennium BCE. Drawing on more than a decade of excavations, this lecture will explore how recent archaeological work allows us to reconstruct everyday life in a medium-sized Sumerian settlement and its relationship with the waterways and marshlands of southern Mesopotamia.
