Week 11 Screening - BeDevil (1993)

After last week's excursion, we're returning to the usual affair this week. Come join us for Tracey Moffat's anthology of ghost stories BeDevil.

In this anthology, ghosts of the past haunt stylised, surreal australian landscapes. Across the three stories, an indigenous boy recounts his childhood encounters with a drowned american soldier, abandoned train tracks rattle late into the night, and an old woman refuses to leave her home so she may hold vigil for her son.
Primarily recognised world-wide for her photography series, writer-director Tracey Moffat lead this project as both her feature film debut and the first feature to be directed by an australian indigenous woman. Moffat's personal touch is threaded throughout BeDevil, drawing inspiration from ghost stories told by her own family and further exploring vivid colours or the use of prominent matte paintings utilised in her photography.
