This week we’re watching the American crime action spoof film: the original The Naked Gun! 🍌

Based on the 1982 six-episode television show Police Squad!, which was itself based on the idea to make a movie originally, and which we'll watch the the first episode of too, the film follows competently incompetent police Lieutenant Frank Drebin (king of deadpan Leslie Nielsen), who stumbles upon a plot to assassinate the visiting Queen Elizabeth II (RIP).
Spawning three sequels, including this year's legacy reboot (to be released in Australia next week), The Naked Gun was the brainchild of writers Jerry Zucker, Jim Abrahams, and David Zucker (aka filmmaking trio ZAZ) plus Pat Proft (aka filmmaking quartet ZAZP?), and quickly became, and remains, a comedy classic thanks to its incredibly high hit rate of visual puns, verbal gags, and straight shooting slapstick.
