MIFF Cinema Outing: Lesbian Space Princess (2025) with Film Society

To watch the Aussie, animated, musical rom-com of your rainbow alphabet dreams: Lesbian Space Princess! From South Australian filmmakers Emma Hough Hobbs and Leela Varghese.

Set in a gaylaxy far, far away, the only escape for introverted and anxiety-ridden Saira (Shabana Azeez) from the burden of being heir to her planet’s throne is her thrilling new love: aggressively extroverted bounty hunter Kiki the Destroyer (Bernie Van Tiel). Unfortunately, Kiki dumps her… and unfortunately for Kiki, she gets abducted by a gang of marauding incels known as the Straight White Maliens. To win Kiki’s freedom, and hopefully her love, Saira must face an even scarier enemy: her own self-doubt.

The debut feature from real-life girlfriends Hough Hobbs and Varghese, this independent animation has previously collected buzz at the Adelaide and Berlin International Film Festivals, and has almost sold out all its sessions at MIFF (outside of our tickets)!
