Wine Society
Our semesterly vineyard trip is upon us, which means that we're piling into a bus and heading to Heathcote for the day! Two wineries are on the itinerary for this trip: Jasper Hill and Sanguine estate. See below for more information about the wineries.
We will depart from the University of Melbourne campus on a hired bus strictly at 9:00am, and will be back on campus around 5:00pm. Our meeting location will be The Spot foyer (not the FBE building!). Tickets are available for Wine Society members on 15/05 and for non-members on 18/05.
Your ticket is all-inclusive, including transport to and from the wineries, all tasting and vineyard experiences, and food platters at the second venue. If you are unable to make the event, let us know and we may be able to offer you a refund and make your ticket available to someone else.
Jasper Hill
There are a handful of wineries in Australia that have achieved cult status, even fewer with open doors to the public. Jasper Hill is one of them. The estate has produced Shirazes that have received perfect 100-point scores. I could sit here all evening writing about their accolades. We’ll be hosted by Emily McNally, who grew up on the property and now runs it with her husband Nick. She farms without irrigation, without synthetic chemicals, and without cutting corners. The wines sell out fast every year and the people who drink them tend to keep coming back. You'll see why.
Sanguine Estate
After Jasper Hill we'll head to Sanguine, a family-run estate just outside the Heathcote township with a Halliday 5 Red Star rating and a cellar door to match. The range goes well beyond Shiraz, with Nebbiolo, Tempranillo and more all worth exploring. We'll taste through the lineup with some cheese and decompress before the drive home.
This event is open to students aged 18+ from all disciplines, years, and levels of wine expertise. This event is hosted at licensed venues and observes the responsible service of alcohol (RSA). Please make sure you are well fed before the event.
