Stargazing and Picnic Night
31/03/2026–31/03/2026
8:00 PM–11:00 PM
Southlawn, Parkville Campus
Society for Astronomy at Melbourne University (SAMU)
Join us for a relaxed evening of stargazing and picnicking under the night sky 🌌🧺
Bring along a blanket, some snacks, and settle in as we set up telescopes to explore some of the sky’s highlights; including distant nebulae, and (conditions permitting) close-up views of Jupiter and the Moon. It’s a laid-back, social night designed for everyone, whether you’re brand new to astronomy or already a space enthusiast.
If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we’ll move indoors and continue the experience using Stellarium, where you can explore the night sky virtually. We’ll also run an astrological star chart activity, giving you a chance to map the stars and learn how to navigate the sky from your own perspective.
Please note: this is a BYO picnic event — food and drinks will not be provided.
Come for the stars, stay for the vibes — no experience needed, just bring yourself (and your picnic essentials).
Date: 31st March
Time: 8 pm - 11 pm
Location: Southlawn, Parkville Campus!
