What's a Game Jam?

A game jam is an event where teams of creatives (or solo developers) make a game from scratch in a given time frame. Test your ability, learn new skills, and work with others in this collaborative hackathon-style game-making event! If you are new to game development and don't think you can finish a game in such a short time, give it a shot anyway and you'll probably learn a lot!

Do I need experience to join?

There's no need for any experience and you can learn as you go. Game jams are an opportunity to get out of your comfort zone and push yourself in learning new skills with other people. The aim of the jam is to create something, anything! Afterwards, you'll have finished a game you can share with friends, family, and other developers. Creating something is a great first step into any creative endeavour.

Is there a prize?

The prize for the winners of the GMC Semester 2 Game Jam will score that whole team tickets to see MAFIA The Game: The Show! A critically acclaimed comedy show based on the popular strategy game of Mafia. See Here: MAFIA The Game: The Show.

Where can I join?

The event will be held Friday 20th of September until Tuesday 24th of September. We will be hosting the opening night with a team-forming session before the jam begins and announcing the theme in Sidney Myer Asia Centre Room 117 @ 6:00 PM. Then on the closing night we will have a games showcase after the jam ends in Cussonia Court Room 1 @ 5:00PM so you can come by to check out the games even if you didn't participate! Both will be held on campus with food provided!

The jam with start with the theme being revealed on the 20th at 6:30 PM. The jam will then be concluded on the 24th at 12:00 PM (a little less than 90 hours total), with a showcase of games from 5:00-9:00 PM. If you want to help us choose the theme, get help finding a team, or get notified about what's happening with UMGMC then join our Discord to stay up to date!
