Join Amnesty UniMelb and the Cambodian Student Society (MUCSS) to a film screening of arguably the most important human rights film in history, The Killing Fields by Roland Joffé, followed by a Q&A Discussion

This film is is a powerful historical drama based on the true story of New York Times journalist Sydney Schanberg and Cambodian photojournalist Dith Pran during the brutal Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia in the 1970s.

The film follows Schanberg and Pran as they document the escalating conflict in Cambodia. When the Khmer Rouge seizes control, Schanberg is evacuated, but Pran is left behind and forced into a labor camp. The story shifts to Pran’s harrowing survival amid the genocide, while Schanberg, haunted by guilt, works tirelessly to locate and rescue his friend.

The film is a moving portrayal of friendship, journalistic responsibility, and the resilience of the human spirit amidst one of the 20th century’s worst atrocities.
